The materials presented in Meditations are documentation of a meditative performance in which I use a large piece of beadwork that I have continued to carefully and lovingly construct for six months as a mediation prop. This is a critical move to reverse the internal-external process of meditation that happens while I’m making the piece at the loom to an external-internal process of absorbing and offering this care and experience and energy outward as I try to put myself in an extra-receptive state of mind. This is also an exercise in giving in to weird, nonsensical, and slightly disturbing behavior in order to get past the limitations of rational thought and conduct to see what might be discovered and reevaluated.
After the filmed performance of meditation, writing and drawing is generated as a reflection, a proliferation, a documentation, and an opportunity for investigation of the action.
